As part of a rising generation of young South African musicians, Tumi Mogorosi has long since made a name for himself on the jazz scene in Johannesburg and beyond. Born in 1987, the drummer and composer has collaborated with musicians such as Feya Faku, Herbie Tsoaeli and Andile Yenana, and is part of British artist Shabaka Hutchings' band Shabaka and the Ancestors.

Mogorosi received a number of prestigious awards for his debut album, Project Elo (2014), and Sanctum Sanctorium, which he recorded in 2016 with vocalist Gabi Motuba and pianist Malcolm Braff, was an international success.

After several projects conceptually dealing with the motif of oppression, for example "The Wretched" after Frantz Fanon, Mogorosi now presents his version of a contemporary South African jazz with the new five-piece formation Group Theory at the Mousonturm.
