A year ago, with the help of hr3 listeners and hr television viewers, Hessischer Rundfunk searched for "Fifty things...that a Hessian has to have done!". The result was then presented by the hr3 presenters Anna Lena Dörr and Tobi Kämmerer in entertaining contributions on radio and television and later published as a book. The success of this campaign virtually cried out for a continuation, which is why the "Fifty things... that a Hessian must know!" were also sought in 2013. The procedure was the same as last year. The call to the public was followed by the evaluation and the presentation of the results on hr3 and on Hessen television. And now, finally, the accompanying book is available, which, like its predecessor, was written by Reinhard Ehret and Philipp Schild and published by Zeitgeist Media GmbH in cooperation with Klartext Verlag.

The book takes its readers across Hesse in fifty informative as well as entertaining and richly illustrated articles, whereby not only the versatility of this region is once again made clear. The book also shows that, in addition to the many really well-known places and the stories they have to tell, there are also quite a few wonderful things to discover and learn about that were previously known to only a few Hessians. It is simply fun to experience the state with all its different facets and its exciting history in such an entertaining way. On offer are a visit to the "Yakwilli" in the Rhön, an excursion into the history of the origins of the snow globe or a hand cheese tasting, a look at Hessen's top sights in Frankfurt or a sip of the most expensive drinkable white wine. Readers will also learn about the European Space Flight Control Center in Darmstadt, a detention center at Marburg University, or even the traditional fire wheels from the Odenwald.

In addition to the "Fifty Things... a Hessian Needs to Know!" there are a few coupons at the end of the book that offer reduced admission prices, 2-for-1 deals, or small freebies. For sure, there will be very few who will want to put all 50 tips into action. Entertainingly presented information, many leisure tips and the vouchers invite the reader to get to know his region better, not only from the couch at home. And since everyone is sure to find a suggestion for a nice excursion or an exciting venture in this book, there is also only one possible conclusion at the end: absolutely recommendable!
