A tour on the traces of the Frankfurt city walls

When you think of Frankfurt, you usually first think of the skyline, the high bank towers, the Zeil, the fair or the airport. Maybe also the cathedral, the Römer and the Museumsufer. Admittedly, these are all places and landmarks that characterize Frankfurt, and not only in its appearance. But the small metropolis on the Main is also an extremely green city with many parks, avenues and, of course, the Wallanlagen, a ring-shaped green area around Frankfurt's city center. In her book "Frankfurter Wallanlagen" Brigitte Holdinghausen invites you on an interesting, informative and entertaining tour of this local recreation area. Here, where the city's medieval ramparts once ran, there are now children's playgrounds, monuments, ponds, old tree stands and numerous other sights, all of which are presented in this beautiful book.

First, Holdinghausen introduces the route, which leads from Römerberg first to the banks of the Main to the Literaturhaus and from there to the Obermainanlage. From there it goes via Friedberger Anlage - with a detour to Bethmann Park - and Eschenheimer Anlage to Bockenheimer Anlage, which in turn leads to Taunusanlage and via Gallusanlage to Untermainanlage, which then leads along the Main back to Römerberg. The reader can then embark on a detailed walk, which not only describes the individual sights along the way and also makes a detour to special features away from the ramparts. The book also dives into the history of certain places such as the Old Opera House, the casemate, the Old Bridge or the Fairy Tale Fountain.

So you learn here all sorts of interesting facts that may have remained hidden while walking through the ramparts. A few beautiful photos accompany this walk through today's Frankfurt and through the historical Frankfurt, intensifying the desire to walk this path with the newly acquired knowledge. Thus, the book is not only an entertaining declaration of love for one of the particularly beautiful sides of green Frankfurt, but also an exciting journey through the city's history. And that then makes this richly illustrated tour an absolutely recommendable read for all Frankfurt lovers!
