A city stroll through Frankfurt can, as long as you visit the right places, be very beautiful, exciting, entertaining, delicious and surprising - but usually it also leaves a big hole in your wallet. But that doesn't have to be the case. Ruth Fühner shows in "Ich schenke Dir Frankfurt", a city guide of a different kind, that Frankfurt can also be explored on a small budget.

Whether culture, culinary or shopping, the options for the small purse are more extensive than imagined. In seven chapters Fühner spins a thread across the Main metropolis, which not only leads the reader to the most important locations of the city, but also provides the most important information about each place. The layout is not really comparable to that of a classic city guide. Thus, the guided tour through Frankfurt is sometimes interrupted by a photo gallery, sometimes by drawings, then again by interesting or amusing facts or by quotations of clever minds like a certain Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. There is a very detailed walk down Berger Strasse, telling the reader exactly where to find which shopping or refreshment outlet, museums beyond the well-known representatives on the Museumsufer are introduced, and of course there is help in finding the right souvenirs.

No question, "I give you Frankfurt" is an original city guide with a lot of charm and an imaginative layout. However, at times this comes a little at the expense of clarity and also information content. It is very refreshing that the book largely dispenses with the typical tourist info and instead likes to take you to the not-so-trodden paths through Frankfurt. However, anyone who, inspired by the reading, wants to set off to visit the places suggested in the book will in many cases first have to consult the Internet or other city guides in order to obtain important information such as the exact address, opening hours or admission prices. It is true that the absence of standard information does not interrupt the reading flow and also increases the entertainment value of the book. But those who want to get ideas for a city tour, a shopping trip or a visit to a museum should be prepared to have to do further research.

But in the age of the Internet and smartphones, this extra effort will be limited. The fact is that "I give you Frankfurt" is simply fun. And even if a very special Frankfurt online portal is sorely missed in the web tips at the end of the book, the overall impression after reading it is a thoroughly positive one. Especially since there are actually some really good tips for the small budget, which make a stroll through Frankfurt a pleasant thing all around
