Once you've lived in Frankfurt or the neighbouring Rhine-Main area for a while, it's hard to understand why this region doesn't exactly enjoy the best reputation in Germany. Admittedly, many of the prejudices with which the Main metropolis and its surrounding area are confronted may be true. But it is worthwhile to look beyond the end of one's nose. For then it is revealed how beautiful, versatile and cosmopolitan this region is and how lovable life can be here.

The "Liebswert - Wohnen in FrankfurtRheinMain" by Claudia Servaty and Nicola Holtkamp attempts to capture precisely this livable aspect of the region in words and pictures by means of selected portraits. The aim was to focus not only on the apartments and houses, but also on their inhabitants, and thus also on the region's diversity and attractiveness. Thus, not only well-known personalities, but also quite "normal" people from the Rhine-Main region were selected to present their own four walls in the beautiful illustrated book.

The book visits an artist from the Frankfurt Bahnhofsviertel, takes the reader into the rural idyll at a couple from Darmstadt-Eberstadt, looks on a flying visit to HR presenter Holger Weinert in Offenbach, makes a detour in the WG of three female students in Mainz or enjoys the wonderful view in Eltville on the Rhine. In selecting the 25 portraits, it was important to the two authors that not only the apartments and houses, but also the people themselves and their stories reflect the region's colorful attitude to life. Thus young as well as older personalities of different occupational groups were selected, who also pursue quite individual philosophies of life.

In addition to the very appealing photos, the accompanying texts also make this book so recommendable. For even though the people featured here are quite aptly representative of the region, their stories are quite personal. The text passages are relatively compact, but do not seem rushed. Rather, information and experiences are conveyed in an entertaining way reduced to the essentials, which definitely increases the fun of reading.

The emergence of the book project from the first conversations to the presentation of the finished book Claudia Servaty and Nicola Holtkamp have recorded in a blog. So the interested reader can not only enjoy the beautiful pictures and browse through the accompanying texts, but also follow the entire development process. "Liebenswert - Wohnen in FrankfurtRheinMain" is a very beautiful illustrated book, a declaration of love for the region and its people, a book that shows how much effort and passion went into this project. And that's exactly what makes this volume then: absolutely recommendable!
