Offenbach does not necessarily have the reputation of being a particularly attractive city. This rather superficial impression is represented thereby not only by the Frankfurters, which connects since always an often nevertheless quite friendly rivalry with the neighbour Offenbach. But the fifth largest city in Hesse has many beautiful sides to offer, some obvious, others rather hidden, which are worth discovering. Ingrid Walter makes clear just how worthwhile a visit to Offenbach can be in her new book "Offenbach zu Fuß", in which she takes the reader on a colorful walk through the city.

So Walter strolls through venerable avenues or along the Main from the Isenburg to the Rumpenheim castle, visits temples, churches, mosques and an old cemetery, makes a detour into the Offenbach art world and strolls over the shopping paradise Wilhelmsplatz. The Offenbach-based author suggests a total of seven different tours of varying lengths to her readers, enriching the detailed descriptions of the paths and sights with information on the length of the route, the nature of the paths, how to get there by public transport, opening times, admission prices, websites and places to stop for refreshments.

The whole is complemented by numerous illustrations and road map sections, which make it easy for the reader to walk the tours after reading. The descriptions are very vivid and always reveal the author's love for her city. Ingrid Walter manages very well to whet the appetite not only of other Offenbachers, but also of readers from neighboring cities to explore the city, where Goethe liked to "relax from the hustle and bustle of his hometown" in all its facets. It doesn't matter whether you are an art lover or more interested in the city's history, whether you want to experience culture or do some relaxed shopping, or whether you just want to take a nice walk in the countryside. This book offers the right tour for every mood.

"Offenbach zu Fuß" is another volume worth reading in the Societäts-Verlag series, which has already taken readers on foot through cities such as Frankfurt, Wiesbaden, Mainz, Kassel and Fulde. For all those who want to convince themselves that Offenbach is far better and more beautiful than its reputation, this walk is absolutely recommendable!
