It is widely known that the Green Sauce occupies a very special position in culinary Frankfurt. Even the heated discussions that always flare up about the allegedly correct preparation or the quantity ratio of the seven herbs are an integral part of Frankfurt's "Grie Soß" culture. People love this delicacy, they argue about it - and for seven years now it has also been duly celebrated with a large festival. Initially, the event initiated by Anton Le Goff (alias Maja Wolff) and Torsten Müller was intended as a one-off event at the Brotfabrik. But when this one evening was so well received, it became a seven-day festival for the first time in 2009, the finale of which had to be moved to the Frischezentrum for capacity reasons. After this experiment could be booked as a complete success, the way of the festival into the city centre was obvious.

With support of city councillor Markus Frank the perfect venue was found with the Roßmarkt. But the big success did not happen in the first years. But in the meantime the Grüne Soße Festival has become a permanent fixture in Frankfurt's cultural calendar and the evening events are always completely sold out. In 2014, for the seventh time, the seven herbs will be celebrated by seven restaurateurs over seven days - a small anniversary that is perfectly complemented by the "Green Sauce Bible". Together with Bert Bresgen, who among other things writes cabaret texts for the festival itself, Anton Le Goff has created the perfect companion for all "Grie Soß" enthusiasts. In the book, the Frankfurt cult figure not only reveals a few secrets about the Green Sauce, but also lets the reader participate in his very personal, extremely amusing revival story, lets the history of the festival pass in review and offers a little time travel back to the times of Goethe or Hildegard von Bingen.

As with the festival itself, Anton le Goff also got himself prominent support for "Die Grüne Soße Bibel". So some of the regulars of the festival evenings are allowed to ponder as patron saints of the Grie Soß about one of the seven herbs in rhyme. When Bäppi La Belle intones an ode to the pimpinelle, Bode Bach pays homage to the cress or Sabine Fischmann & Ali Neander wishes the chervil to be the heir of the sprightly grandma Bärbel, reading this book becomes a humorous treat. Beside the seven patron saints in addition, the Fleischwursthäretikerin Hilde from Bornheim, which is also a firm component of the festival, may enrich city councillor Markus Frank or Lars Obendorfer of "Best Worscht in Town" the book with small contributions. A 7-herb language school, a listing of all previous winners, a Green Sauce Knigge and a listing of seven highlights from seven years from the festival tent also ensure that the entertainment value of the "Green Sauce Bible" is kept at a high level throughout.

However, a book about the "Grie Soß" naturally also includes a selection of recipes. 21 favorite recipes from festival fans crown the culinary side of the book. Whether Carobnara Grie Salsa alla Marino, Frankfurter Grüne Soße Nudelsalat, Grüne Soße Eis or Frankfurter Vegane Grüne Soße - here are numerous suggestions to try out yourself, which show this cult dish from a completely different side. And of course there are also suggestions on what is best to drink with the Green Sauce. Nothing stands in the way of a culinary treat after reading this book. And if you still want to lift your spirits, the book also offers six atmospheric songs about the Green Sauce.

"The Green Sauce Bible" is a very amusing book, but it is not only fun to read, it also offers some tasty suggestions and interesting details about "Grie Sauce". An endearing nod to the cult food and a very nice companion to the popular festival - and therefore a must for all green sauce fans. Absolutely recommended!
