For over twenty years, "The Simpsons" have been an absolute cult. The 500+ episodes that have been created to date run in constant rotation on television and there really isn't a day that fans can't visit their yellow friends from Springfield. After all these years, the plethora of TV episodes, companion books, comics, merchandise, and a feature film, there's hardly anything left that isn't available from the yellow family. But in fact, there is now a wonderful opportunity for Hessian fans in particular to get to know "The Simpsons" from a whole new side. The dialect comic "Die Simpsons fer Simbel" combines typical Simpsons humor with the very special Hessian charm, which may seem a little strange at first, but ultimately works really well.

When Homer goes to Moe's for a "Schobbe"drink to recover from work at the "Atomkrafwärk", when Lenny, Carl, Homer and Barney open their posh bar "Die Schobbepetzer" or Homer wonders while watching TV, why "de Scrachy alls still uf de Fies is, where em de Itchy doch mit ere Heggescher de Kopp abgepetzt hat", then really no eye remains dry. What Frankfurt's cult bard Bobby von Schwanheim has brought out of the comic book is just great. He has not only translated the dialogues into Hessian. Even shops, posters or advertisements sound a little different in this version than in the original.

For example, in the "Kwick-I-Mackt" above the counter it says "Mir wolle meistens schon, nur müsse duhn mir nett", in an ad someone is wanted, and in room C of the research hall, "Neurokram un Kopp-Versuche" take place, while across the street, "Kärrnschbaldungsversuche un gefährlisch Zeusch" are carried out. Other highlights include a "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" dream sequence in which Homer gets to sing a little hymn to Ebbelwoi.

The "Simpsons" comics, while generally quite amusing, never really come close to the wit of the series. With the dialect version, however, things are quite different. Here you can often laugh so heartily as a reader that it may well happen that "des Esse falls out of de Schnuut". A must for all who are not only fans of the cult family, but also love the Hessian dialect. Absolutely recommendable!
