The "Tribute of Panem" trilogy by Suzanne Collins is one of the most successful young adult book series of recent years, along with the "Twilight" books. So it's no wonder that the lavish film adaptation of the first volume is hotly anticipated by fans and naturally accompanied by the release of an extensive range of products. This includes, in addition to soundtrack CDs, posters and countless merchandising items, of course, books on the film. The "Panem" devotees are not only offered a film edition of the first novel with images from the film adaptation. There are also two other companion books that fans should definitely not miss.

The Official Book to the Movie
by Kate Egan<x>.BR</x>
The "official book to the film"offers anyone interested a behind-the-scenes look at the spectacular film adaptation. Enriched with numerous photos from the film and from the shooting, the beautifully designed book illuminates the beginnings of the project, from the publication of the novel to the acquisition of the film rights and the adaptation of the screenplay to the casting of the actors and the selection of the right director. But the biggest and most interesting part of the book is taken up by the equipment, sets, costumes and make up. And that's especially nice in that in the film, many details get lost a bit due to the quick cuts and the very unsteady camera, especially in the scenes set in District 12. Here, however, you can observe exactly how much effort the creators put into the creation of District 12 and the Capitol, or even the creation of the costumes.

In addition to the photos, which also show early concept drawings, the accompanying texts explain, among other things, the difficulties the creators faced in implementing certain details, such as the large cornucopia, how large special effects were prepared, or even how the actors prepared for their roles. Again and again it becomes clear how much importance was attached to offering fans of the books an adaptation that was as faithful to the original as possible. Just how much effort was required to achieve this is evidenced by this Making of book in an entertaining way that is well worth seeing and reading.

The Official Guide to the Tributes
by Emily Seife

The "official guide to the Tributes" is a recommended read especially for "Panem"newbies or for those fans who want to brush up on their knowledge. Because here all the important backgrounds to the Hunger Games and to the individual tributes are explained. From the traditional "harvest" to the train that brings the tributes to the Capitol to the parade, the training center and the interviews that take place before the games begin, every step of the annual Hunger Games is highlighted here. In addition, the 74th Games tributes from each district are featured. The reader learns here thus not only the background of the history, but evenly also the most important characters - embedded of course in numerous film pictures.

The book is insofar a recommendable supplement to the film, because here, as could be observed already with the Making of book, quite a few details can be discovered, which are somewhat lost in the film. These include, in addition to the symbols for the individual districts, the design of the various weapons, the costumes at the entry parade in the Capitol or even the specific tasks of the twelve districts.

What can be credited to both books is that they provide the fan with a lot of interesting information without ultimately giving too much away. Hardly anything is given away about the events in the arena, and even if the plot should already be known to most readers anyway, the movie still offers some (visual) surprises that remain even after reading these companion books.

So, for those who have already been passionately immersed in the literary world of Panem and now want to repeat that with the movie version, these two books can be warmly recommended. For old and new fans of the adventures of Katniss Everdeen and the Hunger Games absolutely recommended!
