David Sieveking presents EINGEIMPFT at Cinema

Filmmaker David Sieveking is coming to Cinema on Tuesday, 11.09.2018 at 8:30pm at Cinema to join the audience for the premiere of his new documentary EINGEIMPFT, which will be released nationwide on September 13. Here's what the film is about:

A child is born. The happy parents, Jessica and David, welcome their daughter Zaria with loving attention, and she develops splendidly. But after only a few weeks, the family idyll is disturbed: the perfectly healthy little girl is to be vaccinated, and against eight different diseases at once. Jessica is against this because of her bad experience with vaccinations. She is afraid of side effects or even vaccine damage, while David is much more concerned about the threat of disease, even though most of the dangerous epidemics have now been eradicated in our country.

Jessica's discomfort causes David to take a hard look at something that has never been an issue for him: he always took vaccination as much for granted as brushing his teeth. To keep family peace, he decides to tackle the problem in a professional way: He has now found the subject for his new film, and his research soon shows that Jessica's gut feeling is not out of the air. The question "Vaccinate yes or no?" is a perennial one for parents at playgrounds, parties and daycare centers. But even among renowned scientists, there is a controversial debate. Constantly torn between his domestic responsibilities and his investigative research, David travels halfway around the world, meeting doctors, researchers and sufferers, to find that common vaccination practice is under scrutiny around the world. But time is of the essence: measles is breaking out in the Berlin neighborhood, Jessica is pregnant again, and the vaccination decision for little Zaria is overdue.

Following his box-office success VERGISS MEIN NICHT, the award-winning documentary about life with his dementia-stricken mother, David Sieveking turns in his usual autobiographical style to a topic that is heating up minds worldwide: vaccination. EINGEIMPFT provides impulses for a constructive approach to the complex topic and is at the same time a relationship comedy that takes us into the turbulent everyday life of a young family - including all the ups and downs.

David Sieveking has never questioned vaccinations, until it turns out after the birth of their daughter that his partner refuses to vaccinate. Now good advice is at a premium! David Sieveking takes the relationship conflict as an opportunity for his unbiased research. He investigates how vaccinations actually work, what risks and side effects exist, what diseases are threatening, and weighs up the pros and cons. Whether at the Robert Koch Institute in Berlin, the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva or innovative researchers in West Africa, David Sieveking is as tenacious as he is conscientious, as sensitive as he is open-minded in his search for the best solution for his growing family.

EINGEIMPFT is a production of Flare Film in co-production with Lichtblick Film, Bayerischer Rundfunk and Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg and in association with arte. Supported by Film- und Medienstiftung Nordrhein-Westfalen, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, HessenFilm und Medien, Deutscher Filmförderfonds and Filmförderungsanstalt.

David Sieveking has also compiled a book of the same name, which illuminates the background of the film's plot and was published by Herder.
