Death in Paradise - The first three seasons in one box

The popular crime series DEATH IN PARADISE will soon enter its seventh round on DVD. The lead has been recast several times over the seasons, which has done nothing to dampen the popularity of this entertaining murder hunt set against a gorgeous backdrop. To shorten the waiting time for the new episodes, the first three seasons now appear once again in a collector's box. And this is what it's all about:

The job of the detective inspector on the Caribbean island of Saint-Marie can be rightly described as a thoroughly dangerous one, but the over-correct DI Richard Poole is seconded from London to solve the mysterious murder of an English colleague. But the dream island turns out to be a real nightmare for Poole! The fussy, always-suit-wearing stiff cliché Brit is having a hard time with the heat, sand and casual lifestyle on Saint-Marie, and he's having far more trouble finding a good cup of tea than finding the culprit. But after the initial culture shock (on both sides!), Poole comes to terms with local police team Camille Bordey (favorite ringtone "I Shot The Sheriff"!!!), Dwayne Myers, and Fidel Best and the different ways of working and living. By the sweat of his brow, the brilliantly analytical Poole solves all the murder cases with flying colors - except the last one.

Thereupon, a London investigator is once again dispatched to the paradisiacal isle to solve the untimely demise of his predecessor. Unlike DI Richard Poole (Ben Miller, Primeval, Doctor Who, Paddington 2), however, new investigator Humphrey Goodman, portrayed by Kris Marshall (Indeed. Love, Dying For Beginners, Traffic Light) is enthusiastic about the Caribbean way of life, but is no less eccentric than Poole. Camille, Dwayne and Fidel soon realize that after the fastidious Poole, they have yet another quirky Englishman on their hands in the form of Goodman - who, for example, writes his observations on napkins and beer coasters. Goodman's supposedly disorganized approach to the investigation initially strikes them as alienating, but it doesn't take long for them to realize that they have a bumbling but exceptionally perceptive detective for a new supervisor.

The British-French co-production Death In Paradise is a crime series with plenty of wit and charm, intricate murder mysteries and Caribbean laissez-faire. The consistently likeable team and a green thread in the form of lizard Harry also make the series extremely endearing. It was actually filmed on one of the most beautiful holiday islands in the world, Guadeloupe, as Saint-Marie doesn't really exist. Crystal clear water, white sand, summer temperatures, reggae, ska and calypso rhythms and wonderfully relaxed people - this simply awakens the wanderlust in every viewer and makes them want to pack their bags. Death In Paradise has been running in the not-so-sunny UK since 2011 - so who's surprised that millions of viewers per season get a bit of that holiday feeling in their living rooms, and again, around 1 million viewers per season watch the light-hearted crime series on ZDFneo.

Series creator Robert Thorogood, who was discovered in a screenwriting competition, tells self-contained tricky crime stories with unpredictable endings in the best Agatha Christie manner, and has his protagonists Richard Poole (in 16 episodes) and Humphrey Goodman (in 46 episodes) act with the same hint and deduction of a modern Hercule Poirot. Towards the end of each case, after the obligatory aha moment, Poole and Goodman have all the suspects and unsuspects come together to unmask the culprit. Death In Paradise is the very best British "whodunit" under the Caribbean sun, so to speak.
