Giving great love a chance even in old age, following the traces of lost childhood to Istanbul or taking the plunge for the first time in life - these are some of the topics at the European Film Festival of Generations. The festival will take place from Monday, 23 to Thursday, 26 October, at the CineStar Metropolis cinema at the Eschenheimer Turm.
"With the film festival, we want to encourage young and old to think together about growing older and look for new images of old age that also make the opportunities of old age clear," says Head of Health Stefan Majer.
Organized by the Frankfurt Health Department, the festival is intended to support the exchange between young and old film lovers and to promote the dialogue between the generations during joint film discussions.
Celebrity guests such as actress Suzanne von Borsody are also taking part. She will present the graduation film "Leander's Last Journey." On an adventurous road trip to the Ukraine she tries as a stressed restaurant owner to bring her daughter Adele and her frail father - wonderfully played by Jürgen Prochnow - back safely.
For the opening on Monday, October 23, at 6:30 p.m., with the documentary "Rabbi Wolff," director Britta Wauer and the 90-year-old leading actor William Wolff will come from London for a film discussion.
This also features a selection of award-winning short films. The current winners of the German Generations Film Award 2017 Phan Thieu Hoa Nguyen and Arkadij Khaet will personally present their work in a school screening on Tuesday, October 24, at 10.30 a.m.
