Content: For many years, Sasha (Leighton Meester) and Paige (Gillian Jacobs) have been best friends. Together they go through thick and thin and have mastered every crisis so far. The fact that Sasha is a lesbian and Paige is straight plays absolutely no role. But that could now change abruptly. Because when Paige meets the charming Tim (Adam Brody) and falls in love for the first time really seriously, dark clouds gather over the friendship of the young women. While Paige is just happy and wants to spend every second with Tim, Sasha feels neglected just neglected. And suddenly the former soulmates lead two completely different lives, which could mean the end of a very special friendship.

With Life Partners, filmmaker Susanna Fogel has directed a really beautiful story about a very special female friendship. The fact that this often feels very authentic may be because Fogel co-wrote the script with her best friend Joni Lefkowitz. That relationship, too, once hit a hefty crisis when Lefkowitz met and fell in love with her future wife. So the friends were able to draw on a very private wealth of experience, which they enriched with all sorts of other everyday observations. The result is a very charming drama, which can also benefit from the completely uninhibited treatment of homosexuality.

Naturally, it already plays a big role that Sasha is a lesbian. But this one largely avoids the usual clichés or striking scenes. It's just normal that Sasha loves women and Paige loves men. Somehow this makes the friendship between the women seem so real and natural, which is enhanced by the fine acting of Leighton Meester (Gossip Girl) and Gillian Jacobs (Community). Adam Brody, who is married to Meester in real life, actually seems like a distracting foreign body at first. But the chemistry between him and Gillian Jacobs is also very good, so that the viewer can relate to the fact that something real and great will develop between the two, which will of course change the friendship of the women.

Although some scenes seem a little ponderous and thus a few small lengths arise, Life Partners is on balance a really likeable girlfriend film, which makes up for many a weakness with a lot of heart, wit and endearingly drawn characters. If you like light indie comedies from Hollywood, you should give this one a look. Worth seeing!

Picture + Sound: The Blu-ray's picture pleases with a very coherent color scheme and a high level of image sharpness, with hardly any noticeable drop in quality even in darker scenes. As is actually the norm for a comedy of this nature, the audio is primarily driven by the dialogue and soundtrack. While the surround channels are called upon from time to time, true multi-channel fireworks should not be expected. Good!

Extras: As a bonus, the disc unfortunately only has the trailer, an alternative trailer, as well as program tips of the provider in the offer.

Conclusion: Life Partners is a nice story about friendship and love, which is just by the good chemistry that prevails between the actors, pleasantly authentic. The Blu-ray presents the emotional chaos of young urban women in appealing picture and sound quality. Only the extras are not really enthusiastic. Nevertheless: the film convinces with a lot of charm and some very humorous moments and for this there is then also a deserved: Recommendable!
