Scrubs - The Complete Second Season

Amazon Link : Scrubs - The Complete Second Season
Film: The wacky mix of doctor series and comedy enters its second round. "Scrubs" has finally found its tone after a successful debut in its second year, the gags sit even a bit better than in the first season and the actors are even more familiar with their characters. In addition, there are very nice guest appearances, including a very funny cameo by magician David Copperfield or a memorable guest appearance by Heather Locklear. Plot elements like fatherhood for Dr. Cox, the increasingly solid relationship between Carla and Turk, and of course JD's relationship with the "hot coma bride" (Amy Smart) make for some really good entertainment in season two. But for all the enthusiasm, a little criticism must also be allowed, because by the end of the second year, the first signs of fatigue have begun to appear in the concept of the series, which will have an even greater impact on the then steadily fluctuating quality of the series in the following seasons. But even in its weakest moments, this series is still funnier and better than most of the other garbage that clogs our TV airwaves in endless loops. Picture: There's little difference here compared to the first DVD box: good colors, an average level of sharpness, and not always convincing contrast. Not stunning, but on a good TV level! Sound: Nothing new here either: only in the dream and fantasy sequences are there a few spatial effects, otherwise dialogue and music predominate - but these are mixed properly, with the English soundtrack sounding a touch more harmonious than the German track! Good! Extras: And again, "Scrubs" offers its fans plenty of bonus material, the scope and content of which other TV DVD boxes could happily take an example from time to time. The beginning is made by six audio commentaries to the episodes "My Roundabout" (DVD 1, Bill Lawrence [Scrubs creator] and actors Zach Braff and Donald Faison), "My Ticket to Reno" (DVD 1, Bill Lawrence and actor Ken Jenkins), "My 1st Step" (DVD 2, Bill Lawrence and actor Ken Jenkins). Step" (DVD 2, Bill Lawrence and performer Donald Faison), "My Bed Relationship" (DVD 2, Bill Lawrence and performer Sarah Chalke), "His Story" (DVD 3, Bill Lawrence and performer John C. McGinley), and "My Hot Coma Bride" (DVD 3, Bill Lawrence and performer Judy Reyes). All commentaries are absolutely worth listening to for fans, as they are not only informative, but extremely entertaining in the first line. And there are optional German subtitles as well! The rest of the extras are all on the fourth DVD. Starting things off here is the making of the second season. "Under Special Conditions" (14:50) goes into detail about working in an abandoned hospital, production design, costumes, and stunts in interviews and behind-the-scenes clips. There is quite a bit for fans to learn here in the short amount of time available, which makes this featurette absolutely worth watching. Continue with a featurette on the role of music in the show (07:02), an interview with John C. McGinley (05:27), and another featurette titled "Secrets and Lies" (10:31). Here, the interested viewer will learn some interesting and extremely amusing stories that took place behind the scenes of the series. For example, one witnesses Donald Faison's desperate attempts to dunk a basketball in the basket in one long take, which he just can't seem to pull off - after bragging on set about what a great basketball player he is! "JD's Wives" (04:07) explains why greater emphasis has been placed on the private relationships of the protagonists in the second season, especially JD, of course. The short featurette "Stunt Casting" (02:59) pays tribute to the celebrity guest stars of the second season, while "When the Imagination Runs Riot" (07:37) takes an in-depth look at the dream and fantasy sequences. All of these featurettes are primarily composed of interviews and clips from the series, making them nowhere near as interesting as the making of - but still worth watching! The final features are additional scenes from eight episodes (08:54), which this time are also commendably divided by episode, some alternate improvised takes (04:36), and 04:28 minutes of delicious outtakes. After such a rich bonus program, one can already look forward to what the third season has to offer! Conclusion: The second season of "Scrubs" is among the strongest seasons of the series to date. Fans should definitely pick up this DVD box set, as the four discs offer plenty of bonus material worth watching, the original English audio, and a transfer that is technically perfectly fine!
