For the eleventh time now, the Whisky Fair in the Rüsselsheim Fortress will take place on the last weekend of September. It traditionally opens the "whisky year", the high season of high-proof spirits, which are usually rather enjoyed in the winter half-year. The summer dry spell now ends after mid-summer and the trade fair season longed for by whisky enthusiasts begins.
This year, the event comes up with a few changes. For 10 years Willi Schildge, who runs a whisky shop on Pumpkin Street, was responsible for the organisation as founder of the fair. After the 10th anniversary, he has now passed the baton into other hands. It was important to him that his "baby" continues in the same spirit as before and, if possible, by someone from the region. He ruled out a handover to a professional fair operator in order to preserve the family environment of the event, which is the charm of this fair and thus inspires visitors year after year.
The whisky scene is very well connected, and so it did not take long to find an agreement with Frank Jerger - whisky trader from Frankfurt - and Michael Reckhard - whisky importer and independent bottler from Eschborn.
Under the new management, nothing will change in the basic concept and the beautiful ambience of the event. Also furthermore on the last weekend in September around 25 exhibitors will present their whiskies, but also other spirits like gin and rum as well as whisky chocolates. Also with the sought-after Tastings, which are offered on both days in the hourly intervals by various exhibitors, nothing will change.

But there will be one major change. To add a new emphasis, the new organizers have decided to now have the fair start on Friday afternoon and end on Saturday night. The thinking is to offer Friday afternoon and evening as an after work event and start to the weekend. "What better way to start the weekend than enjoying fine wines and the company of friends?" say the organisers.
Tastings will be offered by exhibitors on both days.
