Pink, garish and unmistakable: this is the Japanese film festival Nippon Connection. Current films from Japan are not often seen on the big screen outside their country of origin. That's why Nippon Connection dedicates no less than six days to presenting current Japanese cinema in all its glory. A special feature of the festival are works by up-and-coming filmmakers who are still considered insider tips even in Japan. But the festival does not only take place in the cinema: Workshops, lectures and numerous sales booths with books, films and handicrafts provide versatile insights into Japanese culture. For small or large appetites, there are typical specialties such as sushi, takoyaki, yakitori or hearty ramen soup, plus a cool Japanese beer with an ice cream topping.
