What composers are behind these daring tunings? What compositional possibilities are explored along these paths? What instrument inspires such diverse composers to create such extraordinary works?Experience the extraordinary development of the cello from 1712 to 1978 on instruments from 1789 and 2015 with Frankfurt cellists Michael Preuß and Bettina Kessler over three evenings.

Bettina Kessler (b. 1988 in Munich) received her first cello lessons at the age of five. She began her cello studies in the summer semester of 2008 with Prof. Conradin Brotbek at the MH Stuttgart, and from 2011 she studied with Prof. Michael Sanderling at the HfMDK, first in the Diplom program, and since 2015 in the Master's program, which she completed in the summer semester of 2017. The cellist has won several prizes at national and international competitions for solo and chamber music. She was a scholarship holder of the DAAD (2011), the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben (since 2007) and the Peter Pirazzi Foundation (2012 and 2015). In the 2013/14 season she was an intern with the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne. Furthermore, she played as a substitute and on temporary contract in the Frankfurt Opera and Museum Orchestra, the WDR Funkhaus Orchestra and the hr Symphony Orchestra. She attended master classes with Prof. Svane, Prof. Boettcher, Prof. Buchberger, Prof. Feltz, among others.

Michael Preuss was born in Leipzig in 1985. He began his musical education as a young student at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Leipzig. In 2004 Michael began his studies at the University of Music and Theatre in Rostock in the class of Prof. Joseph Schwab. In 2008 he moved to the class of Prof. Michael Sanderling at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main, where he completed his studies after passing the diploma exam in the winter semester 2012 with the concert exam in the winter semester 2015.
