"When we - Harnoncourt, Leonhardt, and I was also there a bit - recorded Bach at the beginning of the 1970s, it was very spectacular, very different from what people were used to." Half a century has indeed now passed since Philippe Herreweghe broke new ground. With his Collegium Vocale Gent, founded exactly 50 years ago, the conductor has since then repeatedly questioned what is supposedly firmly cemented and allowed himself to be guided by musical experience on the one hand as well as by current research results on the other - in order to present convincing interpretations time and again. On this anniversary, Herreweghe and his Collegium Vocale Gent dedicate themselves to the very repertoire with which their success story began and which they continue to rediscover for themselves: the music of Bach.
