For over sixty years now, the Frankfurt Book Fair has been one of the largest and most important information and trading centres for the global book industry. Every year, thousands of exhibitors, trade visitors, authors, publishers and book lovers from all over the world meet to inform themselves about the latest publications and trends in the industry and to exchange ideas. Traditionally, the book fair is held every year under the motto of a selected guest country. In 2016, the culture of the Netherlands and Flanders will be the focus of the Fair. Parallel to this, various fringe events are offered in Frankfurt before and during the Book Fair. Readings, dance events, film screenings or theatre performances are just some of the highlights of the rich programme on offer. But in addition to this focus, the 2016 Book Fair also offers other interesting focal points. For example, the Frankfurt Antiquarian Book Fair will open its doors again this year. Here, antiquarian bookshops from various countries will offer a very special exhibition for passionate collectors and book lovers on almost 1000 square metres. For some years now, another part of the Book Fair has been enjoying ever greater popularity: the Comic Centre. Although comics for children and mangas are the main focus of the exhibitors, whose numbers have multiplied since 2000, it is also clear from many of the exhibitors that comics are also an often underrated form of literature in which language and graphic artistry can combine to produce a very special work of art. This part of the 2016 Book Fair is certainly entertaining. About 7,100 exhibitors from almost 100 countries will once again show visitors what is currently happening in the world of books. Integrated into this are, of course, the electronic media, which will be represented again in 2016 in a special form at the Book Fair. And the close connection between books and film or TV will also be examined in more detail in a special area of the fair! The Forum Film & TV has now become a fixed and important fixture at the Frankfurt Book Fair. Literature was and is one of the most important components of cultural life. This will change little in the future, even if the book has so often been prophesied an imminent end. But the Book Fair makes it clear year after year that this will certainly not happen in the near future. That's why this fair is so interesting and exciting, and not just for trade visitors. Private visitors to the Book Fair can take part in this literary, cultural experience all day on Saturday and Sunday. Bring plenty of time and good shoes, because there is once again a lot to discover at the 2016 Book Fair. You can find all further information about the Book Fair, the Guest of Honour and the individual focal points on the Frankfurt Book Fair website. Opening hours for private visitors: Sa.: 09:00 to 18:30 Sun.: 09:00 hrs to 17:30 hrs
