"It's better to burn out than to fade away." (Kurt Cobain) "Le Sacre du Printemps" is the initial spark of 20th century music. The 1913 premiere in Paris was still accompanied by tumult. "Sacre" has long been the classic that can inspire young people for classical music ("Rhythm is it"). The beginning of the tone poem "Also sprach Zarathustra" is also such a legend, not only when Kubrick opened his film "2001: A Space Odyssey" with it. Strauss originally wanted to dedicate his work straight away to "the 20th century". Can philosophy really be composed? Or was Strauss only inspired by Nietzsche's thoughts from "Zarathustra"? Kurtág wrote the orchestral version of "Stele" when he was "Composer in Residence" with the Berlin Philharmonic. John Keilor notes: "There are not few voices from the dark period of Eastern Europe in the 20th century that are as impressive and weighty."
