How is a museum actually created? What makes a city museum? With the opening of the new exhibition building, the new conception of the museum quarter comes to an end. The Making of HMF shows the long journey from the first thought of renewed exhibitions to the completion of the last construction phase. Using spectacular photographs and an expansive video installation, visitors experience the creation of the new Historisches Museum Frankfurt in fast motion - from the removal of the statue of Charlemagne and the demolition of the concrete building from 1974 to the opening of the exhibition building with its striking double gable. The architecture of the building is not the only focus. By means of interviews and glimpses behind the scenes of the museum, the development of the content, the realization of the unusual concept for a city museum, is also addressed.
