"Eddie Carbone, a dockworker from Sicily, has two cousins from his homeland who immigrated to the States illegally hiding with him from the authorities. In the U.S., they find work but no actual welcome; without passports or residency permits, they live in constant fear of being discovered and deported, and are thus excluded from the social life of their colleagues. Tensions in the cramped apartment become unbearable when Rodolpho falls in love with Eddie's niece Catherine, to whom Eddie is passionately attached. In his jealousy, he betrays his rival to the immigration authorities. As a result, he loses the respect of his family, friends, and colleagues. In the end, Rodolfo's brother stabs the hapless Eddie with his own knife." Arthur Miller's 1955 socially critical drama has lost none of its relevance to this day; on the contrary, the arguments are gaining in poignancy. The realistically powerful dialogue, in the new translation by Alexander F. Hoffmann and Hannelene Limpach, makes EIN BLICK VON DER BRÜCKE an exciting theatrical pleasure, moreover the production by Alexander J. Beck and Sabrina Faber shifts the action right between the audience. Learn more about the play HERE in our review
