"The Northern Lights are a fascinating spectacle and cast a spell on anyone who has ever seen them. They shine particularly brightly and beautifully in wintertime over a small town in Swedish Lapland, 195 km north of the Arctic Circle, called Abisko."
Inspired by northern lights and desert sun, urban jungle and endless Scandinavian expanses, the five Berlin musicians of "Abisko Lights" set out in 2015 to combine their experiences of jazz, classical, pop and klezmer and together discover new paths and spaces away from the musical mainstream.
So contemporary jazz interweaves with minimal music, impressionistic classical, pop, Arabic and European folklore in the quintet's compositions to create an unusual blend of the strange and the familiar, improvisation and composition, experimentation and attention to detail.
In the end, music emerges that touches and opens up new spaces for the imagination; unagitatedly melancholic, permeable and playful, without losing its footing.
2017 sees the release of the Abisko Lights' debut album on the renowned Swiss jazz label "Unit Records".
