Just recently she convinced not only experts with her exploration of Arvo Pärt's sound worlds. At the Alte Oper, however, her attention turns to the music of the 18th century - to which she devotes herself with no less meticulousness and seriousness. Viktoria Mullova has studied the achievements of historical performance practice in depth, and the Academy of Ancient Music is by no means the first ensemble committed to the original sound with which she has sought constant collaboration. When the Moscow-trained violinist turns to Bach's music, she likes to reach for her 18th-century Guadagnini violin, which she strings with gut. The result is a clearly contoured tone, ideally suited to making the violin sing in transcriptions of vocal works by Bach and Haydn!
