Since the last album three years ago a lot has happened in the life of Adel Tawil. There was a life-threatening accident in which he broke one and the same cervical vertebra four times, there was the divorce from his wife, whom he had only married in 2011 and with whom he had been together for a total of over a decade. There were the great artistic and professional successes and the absolute private low blows. The media frenzy surrounding his personal life on the one hand, and the sold-out venues to euphoric audiences on the other. There was a solo album that has since gone five times gold and an insanely successful tour.
"I have to say, it's been quite a roller coaster ride over the last few years. Quite a mess." After all the turmoil surrounding his personal life, he's desperate for a place to finally start working on his new album. Adel boards a plane to fly to his buddy's house in Hawaii, where he lives on the Big Island, in the middle of the jungle. "There's nothing there. Nothing at all. He's got some solar panels on the roof to power himself and a shower he built himself. (...) I was cut off from all communication. I could no longer reach anyone and no one could reach me. I knew then: this was the best decision of my life. Now I can work." And work Adel does. Freed from the baggage of the past, freed from the media hype, freed from his own paralysis, he gets to work and unlike the previous album, the work proceeds confidently and boldly. "That's where I decided to make a very different record, (..) which is why the album will be called 'So Beautifully Different'."
"I just told everything that happened to me. I put in all the pain and the really big happy moments. I wrote about what I saw in the world, in Europe and on the outer borders of Europe, in Egypt. I wrote about what's on my mind and probably on a lot of people's minds." And there's the music. Because there's one thing you can never forget about Adel Tawil: Whatever he's doing. Whatever he's dealing with. Whatever comes his way and whatever ups and downs he has to deal with. In the end, Adel Tawil is a singer who lives the songs he sings. With every fibre of his being. With all his strength, courage and dedication.
