Agnes Obel began playing the piano at the age of six. She comes from a musical family: her mother is a musician and her father collects instruments - thus, from the very beginning, diverse influences from all artistic fields shaped her. As a result, today she counts musicians as diverse as Swedish jazz pianist Jan Johansson, PJ Harvey, Claude Debussy, Eric Satie, Nina Simone, Joni Mitchell, The Smiths and Roy Orbison among her idols - to name just a few.
Obel, however, was also a classic internet phenomenon and one of the early Myspace discoveries before her debut album "Philharmonics" went on to take her home country of Denmark five times platinum and five awards at the Danish Music Awards for Album, Pop Release, Debut Album, Female Artist and Songwriter of the Year.
The follow-up album "Aventine" was similarly successful.
She belongs to the graceful and nameless genre that combines ethereally sculpted soundscapes with entirely classical compositions.
