Opera doesn't need to be reinvented - but perhaps it does need to be rethought with an audience more oriented towards musicals and events in mind. That's the approach Plácido Domingo took when he began planning "AIDA.THE.STADIUM.WORLD.TOUR" two years ago. Just as he inspired an international mass audience for classical music in the 1990s with the "Three Tenors" and rose to become a cult star, the 75-year-old Spaniard wants to reach as many people as possible with AIDA as a stadium spectacle, especially younger ones, and bring them closer to the great world cultural heritage of opera. A highest artistic and musical level as well as the sophisticated stage and sound technology with integrated LED light walls will fascinate even critical score purists at this stadium spectacle.
Plácido Domingo, who made it into the Guinness Book of Records twice with his unrivalled repertoire as a tenor (more than 147 sung roles) and with over 3800 performances, is fulfilling a lifelong dream with his AIDA show, in his own words. It has always been his vision to one day stage "the great, the very great opera," explained the maestro in Los Angeles, where he directs the opera of the Californian metropolis as general director. He also conveyed the following words of greeting: "I am particularly looking forward to the start of my world tour in Germany and to a reunion with Hamburg, where I made my debut as a singer at the Staatsoper in 1967."
