Not a few call the Texan of Mexican descent an eternal insider tip. Should that be true, one can't help but state: the now 68-year-old is also perceived as such even by major papers like Stern. "His new album is the opus magnum of a remarkable career away from the US mainstream," one could read in the weekly magazine about the last great rock'n'roll romantic. "With this powerful, politically engaged album somewhere between Los Lobos, Chuck Prophet, R.E.M., Calexico and Richmond Fontaine, Escovedo once again proves himself to be one of the USA's outstanding, yet sadly criminally underrated folk rock songwriters." Escovedo's new album, "The Crossing," tells the story of Salvo from Italy and Diego from Mexico who meet in Texas to explore their "promised land" and dream big of rock and roll once again. Of course, disillusionment quickly sets in in the face of Trump's restrictive policies. Flight, racism and disillusionment are Escovedo's themes, which he also ties to his own history. With all that he has perceived around him for decades and that threatens to culminate under the current U.S. administration, Escovedo, who is assured of the esteem of many famous colleagues, does not want to bury his hopes. "I still believe that music has the power to change the world," he is quoted as saying. Text source and more information about this event: https://www.brotfabrik.de/index.php?id=25&month=4&year=2019
