Classical music - as far as the eye can see. For young Alex Auer, his parents' record collection is a closed book. But what is it? Hidden among German gramophones, the 12-year-old finds his father's Rock 'n' Roll.
What follows is pure love for handmade music - with all its ups, with all its downs. "With the first band on club tour in the US, after that your fate is sealed." When you are twenty years old and play in the legendary New York nightclub "The Limelight", there is no way back for you. But it comes as it must and the band Shyboy breaks up. The dream is shattered for the time being, but Alex can't let go of his love for music. What follows are countless jam sessions with various musical companions. One of them is the then unknown Mannheim native with the remarkable voice -Xavier Naidoo. Until today the paths of the two artists cross regularly. On tour Alex accompanies the exceptional singer on the guitar, Xavier on the other hand doesn't miss the chance to take the microphone on Much Better.
"The energy during the recording was warm and intoxicating - music like a séance. After all, we've all known each other for years, an organically grown team. Boris Angst and Rolf Beier are on board, the drummer and bassist of my band Lava. Rami Jaffee from the Foo Fighters and of course my old friend Neil Palmer, the gifted keyboard player I met through Xavier. Much Better is the album on
which combines all my creative phases into one big whole.
Alex Auer - this is someone who breathes music, genre by genre. Someone who doesn't scratch the surface, but dives deep into musical worlds. Someone who understands music as a universal language, whether it's African percussion, soul funk or southern blues.
