As far as his repertoire is concerned, he is considered one of the most versatile pianists of our time - and yet he finds his own unique approach to each composer, to each epoch. Alexandre Tharaud laments the increasing narrowing of the repertoire on the concert stage. A tendency he would like to counteract - with programs across the epochs, with stops at pianists whose works deserve greater attention in his eyes. With such a broad repertoire, the pianist will also be appearing at his upcoming recital on Monday, 26 October 2020, in the Mozart Saal of the Alte Oper Frankfurt. Due to Corona, the recital, which has already been planned for the long term, must be limited to a maximum of 75 minutes. But even within the smaller framework Alexandre Tharaud unites stylistically different worlds. He begins with sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti and thus once again devotes himself to the fascinating microcosm of the Baroque master. From there, he moves abruptly into the late 19th century and interprets Sergei Rachmaninov's Five Fantasy Pieces, whose rich melodies and dynamics - as evidenced by his highly acclaimed recording of the cycle - he knows how to savour to the full. French repertoire completes the evening, with Maurice Ravel's "Miroirs" shimmering in new harmonies and glowing in refined shades.
To ensure that as many people as possible can attend the concert despite the corona's lower seating capacity, the pianist has agreed to play his program twice, once at 6.00 pm and once at 9.15 pm.
Due to the change in arrangements, tickets already purchased will not remain valid, and a new ticket purchase will be required to attend either concert. Previously purchased tickets for the originally announced concert must be returned to the respective box office for a refund.
