Dark times always draw reflection in art and culture. So it's no surprise that the band members of Algiers (London, Atlanta, New York), spread across the globe, continue to take a stand on the current political situation in their music, not idly waiting for a revolution. Rather, they recognize the importance of their resistance - also in their new album "The Underside Of Power" (2017 | Matador Rec./Beggars Group/Indigo). They were supported not only by new drummer and former Bloc Party member Matt Tong, but also by producer Adrian Utley (Portishead). Due to their childhood spent together in Atlanta, where they experienced firsthand the prevalence of racist and institutionalized violence, their desire to protest these conditions together, to make music together and to express their frustration with it, developed. But of course, the soul-rock band's new album was influenced not only by the band's day-to-day struggles, but by the larger upheavals, the creeping fascism, the ever-widening xenophobia in Europe and the U.S. under Trump's presidency.
