This sounds like a truly fearless young lady. At just 16, Alice Phoebe Lou, who grew up in South Africa, first set off for Europe during her school holidays. Inspired by fire dancers in Paris, she wanted to finance her wanderlust as a street artist from then on, so quickly learned the ups and downs in the immediacy of such performances in front of a random audience. Not an easy thing to do, but a good school to make your voice heard there.
So, after completing her training at the Cape, she was drawn back abroad. Berlin was her chosen destination. A city that for Alice Phoebe Lou exuded freedom and informality, with intoxicating effects for her creativity. Although, armed only with a guitar and a small amplifier, she quickly enthralled walk-in customers with her hypnotic voice and made them linger, she wanted to retain her independence as a musician with heart, body, soul and mind and turned down offers from major labels, realizing her EP "Momentum", "Live At Grüner Salon" and, most recently, her long player "Orbit" rather on her own. Because the superficiality of the pop business is abhorrent to her. Her debut album therefore convinces fans and critics alike with its unused sound, and her music is a multi-layered, passionate indiefolk that reveals an intuitive sense of blues and jazz in Alice Phoebe Lou.
