Felix Mitterer's "Ein Jedermann" takes up the classic Jedermann material after Hugo von Hoffmansthal and was continued and written by him into modern times. For Thomas Jedermann, heir and general director of a steel and weapons company, the last day on earth has come. God the Father, together with Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit, but also death and the devil have come to hold their day of judgment. Now Jedermann has been the prototype of a power- and money-hungry manager all his life. While the devil therefore thinks his soul is safe, Jesus wrests a few more trials from his father as a chance to come to his senses. And it is to be a turbulent last day for the unsuspecting everyman. His wife attempts to take her own life, his son is arrested in faraway Caracas for drug trafficking, and even his secretary - and mistress - puts a gun to his head, finally making her a wife at his side. In all the goings-on, God the Son and the Devil alike try to intervene in favor of their own goals. But death, in the form of the office servant Heinrich, also watches over the events. Driven by the devil as his supposed advisor and warned by Jesus through Mother Everyman, Everyman begins to reflect more and more on his own actions, whereby concepts such as morality, guilt and faith become visibly blurred in their meaning. Whether his resulting insights are enough to find redemption after death and the question of what redemption even means, however, remains to be seen .
Felix Mitterer (born February 6, 1948 in Achenkirch, Tyrol) began his career as an author in 1970 with the radio play "Kein Platz für Idioten" (No Room for Idiots), which was published by ORF the same year. Mitterer, who describes himself as a Tyrolean homeland poet and folk author, has, in addition to about 40 dramas in the genre of the Austrian folk play, also written numerous screenplays (including for the broadcast series "Tatort").
