Anastacia Newkirk was born in New York but grew up in Chicago. At 14, the daughter of a nightclub singer and an actress returned to Manhattan. She tried her hand at changing roles and engagements, made small literary attempts. Then she tried her hand at songwriting before diving into the music scene as a dancer and backup singer. Her hour struck when she entered MTV's "The Cut" competition in 1998 and made a splash with "Not That Kind."
Her debut album "Not That Kind" stormed to the top of the charts and made Anastacia the queen of new soul. The second CD "Freak Of Nature" even surpassed this success and finally established Anastacia as an international star.
