AMEO: Between sophisticated sound structures and pure joy of playing
The Berlin-based Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra (AMEO) consists of 18 young instrumentalists of diverse musical and cultural backgrounds. Founded in 2006 by Daniel Glatzel, the ensemble moves compositionally and interpretatively between and beyond the usual musical scene divisions and is considered one of the most distinctive and idiosyncratic large ensembles.
The musicians are specialists in diverse styles - jazz and new music, baroque music, classical, progressive rock and free improvisation - and regularly collaborate with renowned artists in their genre, for example as permanent members of Ensemble Intercontemporain, The Notwist and Gunter Hampel Trio, or as soloists at festivals with artists such as Dave Douglas, Tony Allen, Bobby Hutcherson and Julyen Hamilton. With strings, winds, vibraphone, harp, synthesizer, percussion, the unusually scored orchestra moves between sophisticated sound structures and pure joy of playing.
