The Paris-based German graphic designer Anette Lenz is one of the most influential designers of our time. Out of a distrust of commercial advertising, she has developed new strategies for visual communication in public spaces. Her sometimes anarchic, always joyful and experimental play with typography, colour, photography and film has produced extraordinary poster series, books, exhibition designs and visual identities for several French cities, theatres and museums. In a world of communication that is still male-dominated and determined by economic factors, she has always trusted in her own uniqueness, making her a pioneer of a new generation of female graphic designers.

In this first solo exhibition in Germany, Anette Lenz contextualizes, ironizes and comments on her own attitude to life. She transforms the museum spaces into walk-in graphic worlds that allow visual communication to be experienced as sensual-poetic food for thought. The title à propos - which means "noticed in passing" - not only stands for a commentary adding something of one's own, but also lays claim to relevance: a commentary that comes at exactly the right time. It can be understood as an invitation to us to enter into a complicity with the work and the creative attitude of Anette Lenz. The effect of her works does not turn us into consumers, but enables us to participate in the wealth of ideas and the expressive power of graphic design, in a refined game of constantly differently staged interrelationships of information and imagery. The graphic work ICH BIN EIN TEIL DES GROSSEN GANZEN UND DAS GANZE GROSSE IST IN MIR by Anette Lenz is a fitting prelude to her concept of a design reverberation that could hardly be more topical in these times.

The exhibition is accompanied by a varied program of events. In addition to public guided tours, which will be possible again at the Museum Angewandte Kunst from July, a kind of "midissage" is planned for the autumn, as the ceremonial opening cannot take place as usual due to the Corona measures.
