A long time - four years to be exact - her fans had to wait for this moment. Now the time has finally come and Anna Calvi is coming to Berlin in a few days to end her live break with an exclusive show at Berghain. Needless to say, the concert was sold out in no time. Everyone wants to share the extremely intense live experience with the Brit, to hear the heavy guitar sounds, to soak up the incredible atmosphere. You can feel a bit of it on her two latest releases, the "Live For Burberry" EP and the exclusive Record Store Day LP "Live at Meltdown", a special festival recording with band, choir and a feature by David Byrne. But nothing even comes close to experiencing them live with your own eyes and ears. Calvi surprises us again and again. The Brit is one of the most elaborate musicians around, and one of the most multi-faceted. She is a terrific guitarist and graduated from university on the violin. She has a lovely voice that shakes you to the core. Both of her studio records were nominated for the Mercury Prize. She is one of those voices that wants and should be heard - and not just because she is so unique, but because Anna Calvi has something to say. That's what connects her to her idols. Not for nothing did Brian Eno call her "the best thing since Patti Smith." She co-wrote the opera "The Sandman" with Robert Wilson and has toured with the likes of Morrissey, Nick Cave and the Arctic Monkeys. Her also long awaited third album "Hunter" will now be released in autumn. And there we can expect great things again. Calvi is a songwriter with an impressive feel for perfect pop melodies and cinematic dramaturgy, and rules the music with her impossibly versatile voice - sometimes gently withdrawn, sometimes full of immediate hypnotic volume. The brittle and tart sheen of the pieces and the grandiose orchestration make them something unique. Lucky for all fans that Anna has now announced that she will be back again. And this twice: in November and in January she will be in Germany for some shows.
