With a superior playing culture that sets them apart from all their imitators, the 12 cellists of the Berliner Philharmoniker have now, for 45 years, been stepping up to the plate to prove what their instrumental group is capable of: from classical to pop, from tango to Beatles, over the past four decades they have brought a repertoire to the concert stages that could hardly be broader. In the meantime, they also regularly meet up with renowned artist colleagues on the podium to make common cause. In the Rheingau this year, of course, it is our Artist in Residence Annette Dasch, with whom the ensemble has already enjoyed a long-standing collaboration. In the joint festival concert, the twelve plus one remain true to their tried and tested programme concept, mixing styles, genres, centuries.
