Godless and noisy is the world, material and selfish motives guide people. Faced with this state of affairs, God and Lucifer make a decision: The Antichrist is to come up from the depths and work in the world for a while. He appears in various guises - as arrogance, a lustful beast, lies or hatred - and drives people into a conflict of all against all. When the stars fall from heaven and the world is on the ground, God's moment has come. He destroys his devilish sidekick and propagates faith in the divine as salvation.
Based on the biblical apocalypse, Danish composer Rued Langgaard has created an unusual and fascinating work. It impresses with an associative libretto with allegorical figures full of symbols and allusions. In his score Langgaard combines late romantic opulence with the richness of detail of a Hindemith or Schönberg to create a personal style full of dramatic intensity.
