Apologia is one of those plays where uncomfortable home truths spill out as the wine starts flowing. As a young mother, Kristin Miller, a renowned Renaissance art historian, followed her politics and vocation, storming Parisian barricades and moving to Florence. Now she has written a book about her life - a book that fails to mention her two children. So when her sons and their partners gather at Kristin's cottage in the countryside to celebrate her birthday, she finds herself ambushed by their very different versions of the past: A disastrous family reunion with a critical look at what has happened to 60s idealists and their children.

Apologia starts as a classic dinner party: convivial, wine-fuelled and increasingly escalating. When renowned art historian Kristin Miller invites her sons and their partners to her birthday party, their very different perceptions of family history boil up. Following her vocation and political views as a young mother, Kristin stormed the Paris barricades as part of the '68 movement during the French student revolt and moved to Florence in the '70s for her Renaissance studies - without her children. Now, by now a successful intellectual, she has published her autobiography. Apologia is a delightfully disastrous family reunion, combined with a critical look at the idealists of the '68 movement and those around them.
