The first German Book Prize winner and author of "The Old King in His Exile"
.
Austrian author Arno Geiger became known to a huge audience as the first winner of the German Book Prize ("Es geht uns gut", 2005). But his novels before that and his penetrating portrait of his father, "The Old King in His Exile", also established him. Now, with "Unter der Drachenwand" (Hanser), he publishes a novel about the individual and the power of history, about the personal and the war, about the dead and the survivors: It is 1944, the world war lost from the German-Austrian point of view, but it is still going on. Veit Kolbe spends a few months on leave at Mondsee, under the Drachenwand, and meets two young women. What Margot and Margarete share with him is the hope that someday life will begin again. The conversation with the author is led by freelance literary critic Christoph Schröder.
