What would New York be without its centerpiece, Central Park, and what would Central Park be without Simon and Garfunkel? Together they formed one of the most successful pop duos of all time.
Almost everyone who has listened to music in any form over the past 50 years knows their tunes. More than half a million people attended their legendary open-air concert in 1981 to redevelop the park; it has since been known simply as the "Concert in Central Park." The "great" of the duo, Art Garfunkel, now comes to the Old Opera House with his solo program.

In addition to their own hits, the focus is of course on the anthems of the Simon and Garfunkel era such as "Bridge Over Troubled Water" or "The Sound of Silence". They have become immortal, just like "Mrs. Robinson", "El Condor Pasa" or "The Boxer" and are unthinkable without the sunny brilliance of his voice. The songs were the perfect expression of the zeitgeist of the 60s and 70s. "There were many moments when I had to pinch myself because of my happiness. We were heroes then," Garfunkel recently told The Guardian. The duo sold more than 38 million albums, and their "Greatest Hits" reached diamond status with 14 million albums sold. With songs like "Have Only Eyes For You," "All I Know" and, most notably, "Bright Eyes," which served as the theme song for the motion picture "Watership Down," he proved his hit potential as a solo artist as well - songs that have long been classics and are still a staple of his concert program today.
Garfunkel also enjoyed success as an actor in films alongside Candice Bergen and Jack Nicholson. In the course of his solo career as a folk rocker, the Grammy Award winner has released twelve solo albums to date, with which he has reached high chart positions not only in the USA and Great Britain, but also in Germany. In 2015, he was honored for his social commitment as part of the "German Sustainability Award".
