The large special exhibition "Athens. Triumph of Images" at the Liebieghaus Skulpturensammlung Frankurt tells the exciting story of the city's founding and provides a comprehensive insight into life and traditions in High Classical Athens.
The myth surrounding the founding of Athens revolves around the life of Erechtheus and his virgin mother Athena. It determined the cycle of the Attic calendar year and its rituals - from the festival of the birth of the future king of Attica to the celebration of his sacrificial death.
The exhibition, with over a hundred major loans from the likes of the British Museum and the Louvre, presents the ancient world of Athens at that time in a fascinating and extraordinary way.
