August Alsina, born and raised in New Orleans, is one of the most promising R&B artists of recent years. In fact, he doesn't exactly have the most pleasant stories from his childhood in recent years.
Crack robbed August Alsina of a father figure at an early age, he relocated with his mother from New Orleans to Houston and, inspired by the likes of Lauren Hill, eventually found music. In 2011, the now 25-year-old R&B singer moved to Atlanta, landed a management deal and dropped his first mixtape, "The Product," in 2012. Then, when "I Luv This Shit" feat. Trinidad James came out, the stage was set for his solo breakthrough. His debut album "Testimony", released in 2014, made it to number two on the US Billboard charts. Features with Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj and Chris Brown followed, as well as a joint tour with Usher. It was his unconditional and relentless honesty that not only wowed critics, but also helped him achieve massive chart success. In the same year, August Alsina was nominated in several categories at the BET Awards. In the end, he took home the award for "Best New Artist". In 2015, he followed it up with his second album, "This Thing Called Life," which also entered the Top 20 on the Billboard charts.
