An impressive example for the innovative development potential of hard music are August Burns Red from Lancaster/Pennsylvania. They took metalcore - a fusion of metal riffs with the intensity of hardcore - to a new level. Their third album, "Constellations" (2009), made the Top 30 on the Billboard charts even without a hit single, and the follow-up, "Leveler," released in 2011, rose to #11 in the U.S. and received high listings in England and Scandinavia. Since their 2013 release "Rescue & Restore", August Burns Red are now definitely among the top ten candidates in the USA, and also their current, eighth album "Phantom Anthem", which held many new sound nuances and stylistic condensations for the band, placed high in the charts internationally. Now August Burns Red, who are bringing the new EP "Phantom Sessions" with them on tour, are coming to Germany for seven concerts between November 20 and December 6, with stops in Hamburg, Berlin, Dresden, Stuttgart, Munich, Cologne and Frankfurt.
In recent years, numerous bands have emerged to further develop the idea of heavy music. August Burns Red have taken the variability in tempo, volume, and complexity from their idols and masterfully executed it. On the one hand, they manage to combine the intellect of metalcore with an intense feeling of pure passion. On the other hand, their anchoring in Christian faith ensures sincerity and authenticity. Here are five young men on stage who really mean what they sing and play. This is the impression August Burns Red have been giving since their formation in 2003, when they were still at school together. Their very first concerts were the talk of the town and their following grew steadily on the internet. To date, their songs have been played around 80 million times on Spotify and their videos have been viewed over 35 million times on YouTube. Two years after their inception, their debut album "Thrill Seeker" was released, laying the foundation for another quality: relentless touring.
The 2007 follow-up "Messengers" captured the #1 spot on the 'Christian Rock Charts' and sold nearly 100,000 copies in its release year alone. The third album, "Constellations," landed at No. 24 on the U.S. charts in 2009. With 2011's "Leveler", Jake Luhrs (vocals), JB Brubaker and Brent Rambler (guitars), along with Dustin Davidson (bass) and Matt Greiner (drums) delivered a masterpiece.
Always driven by the need to evolve, the band unveiled "Sleddin' Hill - A Holiday Album" in late 2012, an all-instrumental concept album that flirted with jazz, punk and progressive rock and tested new boundaries within their genre. These experiments also benefited the work on their sixth album, "Rescue & Restore," which proved to be their most commercially successful to date - and their most artistically diverse - when it was released in June 2013. Meanwhile, August Burns Red can confidently be dubbed the world's leading metalcore formation, as evidenced by the international success of their album "Found In Far Away Places", released in late 2015 - as well as the fact that they have received two nominations in the "Best Metal Performance" category at the Grammy Awards thus far.
