The Lufthansa Orchestra was founded in 2011 and had its premiere at the HelpAlliance benefit concert for the victims of the triple disaster in Japan. Performances in Munich followed, as well as concerts abroad in Bulgaria and Puerto Rico. The ensemble now brings together more than 60 active colleagues from all Group companies and a wide range of professions under the direction of its British principal conductor Colin Touchin.
The orchestra performs regularly in the Frankfurt area - most recently in the spring at the Neue Stadthalle Langen. The concerts have become an integral part of cultural life at Lufthansa, with numerous visitors long since beyond the Group's borders. In 2016, the Lufthansa Orchestra premiered the newly founded Lufthansa Concert Choir just in time for its 5th anniversary.
At this major autumn concert in the Neue Stadthalle, the audience can expect a particularly varied programme with works by, among others, Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky ('A Night on the Bald Mountain'), Niels Wilhelm Gade ('Echoes of Ossian'), Sergei Prokofieff ('Lieutenant Kijé') and George Gershwin ('An American in Paris').
Tickets, priced at 12 euros, will be available from mid-September on the Festival's own ticket portal at www.lh-orchester.de and on the day of the concert (if still available) at the box office.
