Cabaret salvation from purgatory
Full beard, long hippie mane, headscarf and gentle gaze - this is how Aydin Isik first preaches plenty of convoluted stuff from his stepladder, because he is the Messiah. What does politics have to do with religion today? Plenty, as the Turkish-born actor, director and cabaret artist from Cologne proves with his second solo program.
For while the world is still ruled only by greed and money, the three world religions Islam, Christianity and Judaism still have billions of active users even without constant updates - a marketing concept that the computer industry can only dream of. So what is it about these ominous commandments and promises of salvation? The longing for a paradise alone cannot be it. With few props and many role changes, Isik illuminates very different aspects of the "Antichrist in the heads" in a balancing act between daily politics, philosophy and satire, showing himself to be a dazzling quick-change artist in the crossover of cultures.
