Vending machine people with golden bathing caps and widened eyes. Plus a five-piece trumpet ensemble playing a disco satie and misappropriating music stands as guns or bullhorns. From burping contests to Madame Butterfly parodies to Hitler moustaches, Cape Verdean choreographer extraordinaire Marlene Monteiro Freitas leaves no stone unturned in celebrating high culture as zombie dance! She opens the empty City Passage with a dadaistic performance that is a necromancy, dance of death and addiction to life all in one. Aggressively silly and disturbingly alienating. Following in the footsteps of Euripides' "The Bacchae", Freitas puts the City Passage into a cultic state of emergency. But in her case, it is not the offended god Dionysus who chases decent citizens out of the protective city, but all of us into the lust for the abysmal!
