On the banks of poetry Theatrical productions and staged readings penetrate to the roots of Rhine Romanticism The city of Bacharach and Frankfurt's Theater Willy Praml are initiating a biennial festival of Romanticism beginning in 2017. This year's program ranges from the early Romantics to Heinrich Heine. The venues are as diverse as the program: Wine cellars, warehouses, banks of the Rhine, churches and ruins, where the Romantic spirit of Heine, Novalis, Goethe, Schubert and many others will come alive.

A voyage of discovery - starting from Bacharach to Lorch and Oberwesel - with theatre, concerts and staged readings tracing an era of German and European culture. A theatrical, musical, literary festival with the Romantics in the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley. One of the plays on this year's schedule is "Der Rabbi von Bacharach," based on Heinrich Heine's novel of the same name and drawing on the ritual murder legend surrounding the boy Werner von Bacharach. This legend is one of the roots of the numerous Jewish pogroms along the Rhine. And so the "Werner-Kapelle" in Bacharach also plays an authoritative role in the play and urges a critical look behind the scenes of Rhine romanticism.
