Daniel Dareus is a celebrated star conductor until one day he collapses during a concert and suffers a heart attack. His health condition forces Daniel to end his career. In order to find rest and recuperation, Daniel returns to his native Swedish village. He dreams of music that fills the soul and brings people together. In his home village, no one recognizes the famous conductor as the boy from back then. As a stranger, Daniel takes on the role of outsider, as many inhabitants of the small community treat him with suspicion and reservation. In young Lena, however, Daniel soon finds someone who awakens in him a zest for life and a lightness of heart. When Daniel is asked to take over the leadership of the church choir, he initially refuses. When he finally decides to do so, his unusual methods are met with rejection and incomprehension. But over time, the choir members open up and work out an approach to music and to themselves. With this process, the group also changes. Where previously prejudices prevailed and latent conflicts determined the togetherness, a community develops that cares for and stands up for each other. With the help of music and the power of community, individual fates are revealed, conflicts are resolved and patterns are broken. As the choir works towards a competition, new friendships and tender love stories emerge...
